Mama Monday - Meet Ashley

Meet Ashley the lovely Mama behind Little Seedling Handcrafts

Could you tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do:

My name is Ashley and I am 24 years old. I am a stay at home mum to two girls, Ava (almost 2) and Amilee (7 months). That alone keeps me pretty busy but I also run my own little home business Little Seedling Handcrafts, making teethers and hair accessories.

Age when you had your first baby:

I was 22 when Ava was born.

What was your reaction when you found out you were pregnant?

I was pretty shocked! We had only been dating for 4 months and I was nervous about how our parents would react.

What has been your biggest challenge with running a business and being a mama at the same time?

Finding a balance and trying not to feel guilty if I don’t spend as much time with the girls as I think I should.

How do you balance home and work life? (any tips/tricks to share?)

During really busy periods it can get quite stressful and I’ve found it easier to work on orders while the girls are napping or throughout the evening as much as I can. Although my husband likes to spend time with me in the evenings as well, so I think communication is definitely best. He’ll often ask me what I need to get done and once the kids have gone to bed, I’ll work on orders for a bit while he does dishes and tidies the house. Usually we can still manage to fit in time to relax and watch a show together before bed.

Best piece of advice you were given about parenting:

Live in the moment. It’s so easy to wish away the days when you’re tired and the kids are grumpy or sick but in reality, time goes way too fast already. Make the most of each moment!

What would you do if you weren’t doing your current job/running your business?

My husband and I would probably be doing competition ballroom dancing (which is how met). It takes up a lot of time which is why it seems impossible at this point, but is definitely still a dream!

Have you met any challenges being a mama in your 20s?

Definitely! I mostly miss not having more time to spend together as a couple before kids.

What has been your biggest challenge in your 20s (non-parenting related)?

Probably making the step to start my business and putting myself out there. It’s so easy to doubt yourself but I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far!

If you could give one piece of advice to twenty-something’s pre kids what would be?

Don’t take this time for granted, whether you are single or a couple. Having kids changes your life so much. Don’t get me wrong, having kids is an amazing experience and lots of fun, but you’ll never get that time back. x
