Hosting a baby shower

Following on from my recent post about My Baby shower, I thought I would share a few tips about hosting a baby shower for someone else!

A few years ago a friend of mine was expecting her first baby and knowing how much I love parties she asked me to host her baby shower.

I was so excited as this was the first time I had organised a baby shower for someone else.

She was the most cruisy mama to be and didn't care about theme or venue or anything, she just wanted to arrive and have a lovely morning with friends and family.

I chose a black and white theme with a touch of blue and started collecting decorations.

The party came together really well and we were so blessed with the weather. I had initially moved my outdoor furniture inside as I thought it was going to rain but half way through the party we ended up moving it all back inside again!

One of my favourite elements of the party was the little packs I made with 'baby guesses' and 'guess the size of the belly' all bundled into a neat little clear bag with a mini peg on top.

Here are my top 5 tips for hosting a baby shower:

1. Be clear about what the mama to be wants. Does she want to be involved? Does she want a dinner, lunch or a morning tea? Who is paying for it? It's great to establish these things before you start planning!

2. Choose a theme. It's a lot easier to plan around a certain theme/colour. You can match decorations and food to suit your choice of theme - I iced the cake with blue icing and it was also blue inside!

3. Don't over think the food! It's super easy to over cater and can be quite hard to know what everyones food preferences are especially if you don't know all of the guests. An easy selection of sweet and savoury that doesn't need lots of time spent in the kitchen is perfect....no one wants to spend the whole day stuck in the kitchen. For Dana's party I created a mix of easy to eat and serve foods, however the platter I had for my baby shower was super easy too!

4. Select a maximum of 2-3 games and add in things like cards of 'Advice' for the parents to be. These cards can be filled out over the course of the party in the guests on time and speed. Make sure games are quick and easy as by the time you eat, play games, and open presents it can turn into quite a long event.

5. Remember to enjoy the party too. Yes you are the host but Im sure the mama to be would love to spend time with you too. Take some fun snaps together and get socialising!

Here are a few photos from the rest of the party. Have you hosted a baby shower before? what are your top tips?
