Todays Mama Monday features Tamsyn the amazing Mama behind Moth & Co (A store which I may have a slight obsession with!)
Could you tell me a little about yourself and what you do: I’m Tamsyn, a stay at home Mum to Cooper (18 months old), wife to Snowy (James), and a small business owner. I love spending time with my family, being creative, and I can’t say no to good food!
What was your reaction when you found out you were pregnant? Total surprise and worry. Needless to say, we weren’t expecting Cooper but I have always loved surprises and he is no exception.
Age when you had your first baby: 26, a little younger than expected What has been your biggest challenge with running a business and being a mama at the same time: The lack of hours in a day. Cooper is my priority so I only work when he’s sleeping or being entertained by someone else. This doesn’t leave much time for work which can be super stressful and lead to a lot of late nights. How do you balance home and work life? (any tips/tricks to share?) I’m still in my first year of business so haven’t quite figured this out yet... if anyone has any tips I’d love to hear them! Best piece of advice you were given about parenting: Let them be babies - they grow up too fast as it is. What would you do if you weren’t doing your current job/running your business? Thanks to my amazing husband I would still be a stay at home mum. I imagine I’d have a bit more time to keep the house tidy and be a bit less stressed. Have you met any challenges being a mama in your 20s? There are countless challenges with being a mum however, I don’t think my age has exaggerated any of them - if it has I am none the wiser as I don’t know any different. What has been your biggest challenge in your 20s (non-parenting related)? Completing my Bachelor of Management Studies. I changed one of my majors part way through so it took me a very long five years to complete. I ended up receiving first class honours though, so am super proud of my accomplishment! If you could give one piece of advice to twenty-somethings pre kids what would it be? Save! You have so much financial freedom pre kids and trying to save on just one income can be really difficult.
