This is Keren the creative genius behind KP Designs. Keren has so kindly answered my Mama Monday questions about Mama-hood and running a business.
Could you tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do:
I'm pretty boring really! Just a normal mum running a small business to help support my family and sustain my creative brain. I love gardening, shopping, painting and crafts. I always have to have something to do - whether it's tidying up after the kids, or a new project. But if anything - i'm VERY lazy, and sitting on the couch watching TV with a cold drink relaxing is where i love to be haha.
Age when you had your first baby:
24
What has been your biggest challenge with running a business and being a mama at the same time?
Time. Trying to manage it all, and be a mum. It's still my biggest challenge to this day.
How do you balance Home and work life? (any tips/tricks to share?)
hahahahaha only tips i have is to plan ahead, like outfits, food, day. Or it all goes to custard. Write everything down. I need to do these things myself - so note to self.
Best piece of advice you were given about parenting:
Breathe. Tomorrow is a new day. It may be as crappy as today, but it's a phase and one day it will be easier. It's totally ok to not be ok.
What would you do if you weren’t doing your current job/running your business?
Gosh i don't know! What do mums do all day if they don't run a business? I started my business when my 1st born was 4 months old..I don't know 'normal' mum life. I guess I would have more time to actually keep my house tidy, do washing and do more educational things with the kids..
Have you met any challenges being a mama in your 20s?
Not really. I think it's actually a lot easier doing it when you're younger.
What has been your biggest challenge in your 20s (non-parenting related)?
Body insecurity - it's a tough one. Gets tougher when you become a mum too.
If you could give one piece of advice to twenty-something’s pre kids what would it be?
Don't run into having kids, enjoy YOUR life, you have time, plenty of time. Kids are amazing, but also very grounding and real. Life does get a lot harder and way more grown up. Have fun - explore - enjoy being with your spouse..or single.
