Pregnancy - The second trimester -the easy part!

We made it to the twelve week mark, wahoo.

This was not something I took lightly as I know that unfortunately there are a lot of people who do not get this far. I was so incredibly nervous as we waited to go in. I hoped with all my might that we would see a little heartbeat.

What a shock we both got!

It was a baby. A real baby! On the screen there was not a little jellybean blob like the previous scan- There was a head and arms and legs...it was the most incredible and exhilarating feeling in the world.

Dom and I kept saying "did you see that?" to each other as the baby rolled and moved around. The ultrasound technician keep on giggling because we were both so excited with every movement. At one point it rolled completely over and at the same time we both went "WOAH, DID YOU SEE THAT?!" boy, did she laugh!

All moved into our new house and with the twelve week scan done, it was time to share our news with the world...we had bought a house and we were expecting a baby.

Phoning our friends and family (and telling some in person) was such an awesome feeling. Listening to their excitement and hearing "we've been waiting for this" was very cool and humbling at the same time.

We announced to the rest of the world (Facebook) that I was pregnant by uploading a series of photos using the frame we had at our wedding. The first photo being at our actual wedding, the second at our one year anniversary drinking champagne and the third one in front of our new home with me pointing at my belly....a few people took a little while to figure out what it meant!!

After the twelve week mark I started to feel some movements. It was all very real.

A lot of people describe the movements as butterflies but it definitely felt more like little air bubbles in my tummy.

As the weeks went on the kicks and movements got stronger and stronger and my little belly started to appear.

By the 16 week mark, most of the morning (all day) sickness had disappeared and I was feeling pretty good. We were eagerly awaiting the 20 week scan.

At 20 weeks and 5 days we headed to the clinic with my mum to find out the sex of the baby. I was 100 % convinced it was going to be a girl. So was mum and Dom was pretty sure too.

As she scanned over the baby she asked if we wanted to find out what the sex was.."YES!" was the unanimous reply!

Tech: "Its a boy"

Me: "What?"

Mum: eyes bulging... "umm what?"

Dom: HUGE SMILE on his face!

What a surprise as I was so convinced. I had to hold onto the side of the table to not fall off in shock! I had to ask the lady three times during the scan to go back to the boy bits and sure enough they were still there! It was a boy.....We're going to have a boy!!

Again it was time to share the news and we did this with black balloons filled with glitter (note: this is not a wise idea to do outside where the glitter can blow away!!)

And the shopping began.

The rest of my second trimester was pretty standard. I had energy, no cravings and was just carrying on like normal. We painted our house, gardened and started planning a kitchen renovation....just in time for the third trimester!
